MUSEUM RENAMES BUS DEPOT GALLERY
Even as the Brenham Heritage Museum readies to reopen its main building, the city’s historic post office, in a few short months, directors took time to honor the donors whose generosity several years ago made its Bus Depot Gallery a reality. The high point of the Thursday afternoon reception was the rechristening of the building that has seen BHM through while the post office was renovated. Moving forward, it will be known as the Larry & Julie Tegeler Gallery at the Bus Depot. There was also an unveiling of signage honoring other top gifts from 2013 and 2014.
“The Brenham Bus Depot has a place not only in the history of Brenham and Washington County, but it also has a special memory for Julie and me,” stated Larry Tegeler. “When we started Tegeler Chevrolet, in 1980, Julie would stop at the Depot on the way to drop off Amey and Brad at school and pick up the items needed at the dealership in Industry.
We are honored to have this space named after us, and we look forward to experiencing the various exhibits that will be held here in the future. “
The other top donors recognized were: Blue Bell Creameries, a gift from Mary Mellard in Memory of Patricia Giddings, Jerry & Ann Morgan, Dr. Henry & Teddy Boehm, Lori & Joh Hasskarl, Lee & Mark Evans, Martin & Luanne Coles, Steve James, Germania Insurance, Joan Hasskarl Smith, John & Jane Barnhill, Paul & Barbara Kruse, Virginia & A.W. Hodde, Jr., Bill Kaminer, Brenham National Bank, Del Sol Food Company, and Martha H. Miller.
All of the donors to the Bus Depot effort eight years ago will also be recognized as part of the new signage inside the renovated post office, as well. Once the main building reopens, the Larry & Julie Tegeler Gallery at the Bus Depot will continue to be well utilized by the museum. Some rotating exhibits will be housed in the Depot, and museum events will continue to be held there. That includes the popular Seth McMeans Lecture Series. Museum board and staff are also finalizing policy that will enable to Tegeler Gallery at the Bus Depot to be used more frequently as a venue for other groups from the community.
As the Brenham Heritage Museum moves forward, the organization still invites financial support for all the new exhibits inside its historic post office. Though the building will soon be completed, two more phases of exhibits remain after reopening. As one of the most visited attractions in downtown the completed museum will be a transformative project and a vital economic driver for the entire county. The capital campaign for the project continues in full force, and the museum is seeking both corporate and individual partners. Naming rights are available.
