WASHINGTON COUNTY MINOR BOYS GOING TO STATE

Washington County Minor Boys, Section 1 Champions

TEXAS EAST LITTLE LEAGUE SECTION 1 TOURNAMENT

MINOR (9-10 YEAR OLD) BOYS BASEBALL AT BOBBY WALKER FIELD IN ELGIN

After dropping their first game of All Star competition to Lufkin 7-4 last (Thursday) night, the Washington County Minor Boys All Star Team knew their backs were against the wall.

They responded by coming back to win the second game 4-0 and take home the Section 1 tournament championship.

Washington County scored three of their runs in the second inning.  Hudson Frank and Levi Duran got back to back hits to lead off the inning, and then moved up an extra base on a throwing error by Lufkin.  Ayden Cunningham then had the hit of the night with a two run triple. Cunningham later scored on an RBI groundout by Austin Smith.

Washington County would get one more insurance run in the third inning.  Cunningham singled to right field, and the outfielder booted the ball, which ended up going to the fence.  Cunningham kept right on running and ended up at third base.  He would later score on a wild pitch to make it 4-0.

Bradley Nowicki got the win on the mound going five shutout innings, allowing only one hit, three walks, and striking out four.  Lufkin managed to load the bases in the top of sixth, but Jackson Burch, who had come on to pitch, recorded the last out by catching a pop up just past the mound. Then, the celebration was on.

The Minor Boys now move on to join the Washington County 11 Year Old Boys at the State Tournament in Tyler next Saturday, July 16.  Both teams play at 8pm at Faulkner Park against the Section Three winners, who have not yet been announced.
