FORMER CUB PITCHER ZANE GRUBBS PASSES AWAY

One of the legendary pitchers in Brenham Cub Baseball history has died. Zane Grubbs passed away over the weekend at the age of 70.
Grubbs was a four year letterman for the Cubs from 1967-1970. He was a key component of the Brenham's first State Championship Team back in 1970.
That season, Grubbs had an ERA of 0.25, a school record that stands to this day. He led a team pitching staff that had a team ERA of 0.78, which is also a school record.
In that 1970 season, they also set a team strikeout record with 316.
Grubbs was drafted in the 16th round by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1970. However, he decided to attend the University of Texas at Austin. Grubbs was then drafted in the third round by the Texas Rangers in 1973.
Grubbs had been living in Live Oak, which is a suburb of San Antonio. Funeral arrangements are pending.
