BRENHAM VFW POST EARNS ALL-AMERICAN STATUS

Texas VFW District 17 Commander Frank Torres (front row, right) congratulates Post 7104 Commander Ben Seeker (front row, left) and post members on being recognized with All-American status.

Brenham VFW Post 7104 has received a national distinction for the first time in its 76-year history.

The post is one of 270 of 6,000 total VFW posts to achieve All-American status for the 2021-22 year.  The post was also recognized as All-State.

This is the first time since Post 7104 was chartered in 1946 that it has been recognized as All-American.

Post Commander Ben Seeker says this honor is all because of the post’s efforts to give back.

To be recognized, a VFW post must meet requirements including exceptional leadership, growing membership and strong support of VFW core programs.  That includes involvement in local schools and the community, and providing relief for veterans in need.  According to Seeker, the post gave back $150,000 in donations and service hours to the community this past year.

The post finished top 20 in the state out of 285 posts, top five in its state division out of 38 posts, and 19th in its national division out of 531 posts.

Texas VFW District 17 Commander Frank Torres says the post offers members an opportunity to continue their service to the public.

One moment that defined the post’s tenet of veterans helping veterans was its cooperation with Hempstead’s VFW post to save it from being dissolved.  According to Torres, the post was lacking in membership, and instead of being shut down, Brenham combined the members from both posts, giving Hempstead a chance to rebuild its membership.

Anyone interested in joining the Brenham VFW is encouraged to call the post at 979-830-8776.  The public is also invited to join the VFW for its steak supper every first Friday of the month.
