WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO CONSIDER NEW VOTER REGISTRATION SCANNING SYSTEM
Washington County Commissioners will vote on the purchase of a new voter registration scanning system at their meeting Tuesday.
The court will consider a Vista Solutions Group system, plus a three-year subscription for maintenance and support.
Elections Administrator Carol Jackson said the county’s current Docuware software only stores documents scanned in manually by a clerk and is not connected to the Secretary of State, Texas Election Administration Management system in any way. She said the scanning of voter registration and corresponding documents can take hours, days or even months to complete.
Jackson said Vista is the only scanning system that works directly with the Secretary of State’s office, and has been adopted by Austin, Burleson, Colorado, Fayette and Grimes counties. She said the software provides safe intake of documents, scanning, storage, searching, sorting, tracking, and secure updating of records and registrations with minimal input, saving time and overtime during and after elections.
The cost to purchase the Vista system with a three-year subscription is $37,500. It will be covered using Help America Vote Act (HAVA) Security Grant funds.
Commissioners will also act on final plats for two subdivisions. The first is for the Reserve at Chappell Hill, consisting of 35 lots and six roads on 115 acres off of FM 1155 North in Precinct 1. The second is for the Timber Bridge subdivision, which is comprised of 24 lots and two roads on 67 acres off of FM 2447 in Precinct 2.
Also on Tuesday, commissioners will:
- Present service awards to county employees with 25 and 30 years of service.
- Consider a contract between the county and Teresa Sazedj for human resources consultation services.
- Accept a check from the City of Burton for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (LEOSE) account.
- Discuss a formal notice from AT&T Communications of Texas, LLC for a proposed utility line at the intersection of FM 390 and Glenblythe Road in Precinct 3 for placement of a fiber optic cable.
- Hear reports from the sheriff’s office, E-911, EMS, Information Technology and the Veterans Service Officer.
Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
