As the number of teachers has been dropping nationwide, the Navasota ISD is doing their part to try to keep good employees on their staff.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, nearly 300,000 teachers left their chosen profession between February 2020 and May 2022.  This represents almost a 3% drop in the workforce.

At their meeting this past Monday, the Navasota School Board approved a new compensation package that they hope will help to keep teachers in the classroom.

The compensation includes:

a two percent raise for all returning Navasota ISD employees,

a $2,000 stipend for all returning Navasota ISD employees,

a $500 stipend for all new Navasota ISD employees,

5 local leave days annually,

Free lunch for all Navasota ISD employees,

And five local COVID-19 days.

Navasota ISD Superintendent Dr. Stu Musick said that the board wanted to do this for their employees to show appreciation for their continued commitment and dedication to their students.
