A College Station man has been sentenced in connection with a January 2021 shooting incident.

Tyreik Haynes pled guilty in Brazos County District Court to Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, the case began on January 9, 2021. The victim’s mother contacted College Station Police and told them that her daughter was trying to leave Haynes, but he had trapped her in his apartment.

When the police arrived, they knocked on the door and announced their presence. After hearing a gunshot, they forced their way inside, and found the victim with a gunshot wound to her neck.

Meanwhile, Haynes is said to have jumped out of a second story window and fled the scene.  Police located him a short distance away and took him into custody.

The D.A.’s office said that miraculously the victim only suffered a minor injury as the result of the gunshot wound.

Then, in October 2021, District Court Judge Kyle Hawthorne revoked the bond for Haynes after evidence was presented that he repeatedly violated his bond by continuing to make contact with the victim.

Haynes was sentenced to 15 years in prison. The maximum sentence for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon is 20 years if the victim does not suffer a serious bodily injury.

Haynes will have to serve at least half of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
