TAX FREE HOLIDAY COMING UP AUGUST 5-7
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar’s office is helping families to get ready to go back to school with the return of the annual “Sales Tax Holiday.”
The “Sales Tax Holiday” starts on Friday, August 5, and runs until midnight on Sunday, August 7.
Hegar encourages all taxpayers to support Texas businesses while saving money on tax-free purchases of most clothing, footwear, school supplies, and backpacks.
Qualifying items can be purchased tax free from a Texas store or from an online or catalog seller doing business in Texas.
The exemption applies to each eligible item that is sold for less than $100, and there is no limit to the number of qualifying items that customers are allowed to purchase.
The sales tax exemption applies only to qualifying items that are bought during the sales tax holiday. Items bought before or after the sales tax holiday do not qualify for the exemption, and there is no tax refund available.
For a complete list of items that are eligible for tax free purchase during the holiday, visit the state comptroller’s website, https://comptroller.texas.gov/taxes/publications/98-490/clothing-footwear.php.
