BRENHAM, BURTON SCHOOLS RECEIVE PASSING TEA GRADES

The Brenham and Burton school districts received passing grades in their new accountability ratings released this (Monday) morning by the Texas Education Agency.

The ratings release is the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic that school districts and campuses have received letter grade rankings.  Click here to view the full list of ratings.

Brenham ISD received a “B” accountability grade of 81, while Burton ISD scored an “A” grade of 94.

Brenham ISD Superintendent Dr. Tylor Chaplin said the TEA ratings are based on indicators primarily driven by the STAAR test, which he believes does not always tell the full story of what students can achieve or how teachers can help them succeed.

Burton ISD Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy said the district is “beyond excited”, and that this high mark is the result of the work put in by the staff and administrative team.

Schools and districts are graded on student achievement, school progress and how they are closing learning gaps.  Brenham ISD received an 81 in student achievement and 80s for both school progress and closing the gaps.  Meanwhile, Burton ISD’s scores were 91 for student achievement, 92 in school progress and 100 in closing the gaps.

The ratings for individual campuses across the two districts include:

  • Alton Elementary School – C

  • Krause Elementary School – C
  • Brenham Middle School – B
  • Brenham Junior High School – B

  1. Congratulations to Burton ISD for their A rating from TEA. Job well done.
I would also like to extend a “job well done” to the amazing elementary staff, parents, guardians and students. They worked hard to accomplish a 95 average. It takes a village to raise a child. Burton Elementary staff makes sure they meet the needs of ALL students. They go above and beyond to teach, inspire, provide, care & love each child. Thank you.
I am substitute teacher for the district. I encourage each of you to consider volunteering at Burton ISD. You would enjoy the time with these kiddos.

  2. Outstanding! Congratulations to the support staff, teachers, administrators, parents, community and School Board. It takes everyone’s involvement to be recognized for Superior Achievement. I encourage the Administration to set a date for everyone to wear RED and host a Community Supper event to celebrate the success!
