LOCAL UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DOWN SLIGHTLY IN JULY

  

Unemployment rates dropped slightly for Washington and most surrounding counties in July.

According to the Texas Workforce Commission, Washington County’s unemployment rate was calculated at 4.5 percent last month.  June’s jobless rate was 4.6 percent.

A total of 675 residents in the county were out of work in July, compared to 689 the month prior.

The number of employed residents grew from 14,199 in June to 14,352 in July.  The civilian labor force also increased from 14,888 in June to 15,027 a month ago.

In July 2021, the county reported an unemployment rate of 5.6 percent, with 852 people jobless.

Statewide unemployment fell to 4 percent in July from 4.1 percent in June.

Around the area, unemployment figures include:

  • Austin County – 4.2 percent, down from 4.4 percent in June.
  • Brazos County – 3.4 percent, down from 3.6 percent.
  • Burleson County – 4 percent, up from 3.9 percent in June.
  • Fayette County – 3.6 percent, down from 3.7 percent.
  • Grimes County – 5.4 percent, down from 5.6 percent.
  • Lee County – 3.7 percent, unchanged from June.
  • Waller County – 4.8 percent, down from 5 percent.
