WASHINGTON CO. FAIR OPENS THIS WEEKEND
There’s no time like fair time in Washington County, and that time has arrived.
The 154th Washington County Fair begins today (Friday) and continues through next Saturday, September 17th at the Washington County Expo. Today’s events include a barbecue cook-off and pitch tournament, while tomorrow (Saturday) the fair kicks off in earnest with the trail ride at 9:30 a.m. and the parade through downtown Brenham at 10:30 a.m.
Fair Manager Dean Fuchs spoke Tuesday on the KWHI Community Corner to go over the events for this year’s fair and note any important changes from a year ago. One of those changes is that the fair queen’s crowning is moving to tomorrow (Saturday) at 6 p.m.
Three candidates are vying to be named Washington County Fair Queen: Ribbon Jones, Maddie Rogers and Carmen Niemeyer.
Also on tomorrow’s (Saturday) schedule are washer and bean bag tournaments, a classic car show, a pet show and the ranch rodeo. Trae Pierce & the T-Stones will close out the night with a performance at 8 p.m.
Sunday begins with a service from Cowboy Church of Brenham at 9 a.m., followed by the bucket calf show and ag mechanics show.
Fuchs said another adjustment to the fair is that most livestock judging events will return to being held on Wednesday, instead of being spread out.
Also on Wednesday will be the Little and Junior Mister and Miss contests beginning at 6 p.m.
The Junior Livestock Auction will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday in Barn #1. All of Saturday’s sales will be held in the sales facility.
Other activities throughout the fair will include the Heart of America Carnival, crafts and vendor booths, country creations exhibits, a kid’s petting zoo and rodeo events.
The entertainment lineup, in addition to Trae Pierce & the T-Stones tomorrow (Saturday), will have Jacob Boyd on Wednesday, Michael Salgado on Thursday, the Reed Southall Band and Flatland Cavalry on Friday, and Drew Parker opening for Roots & Boots, featuring Collin Raye, Sammy Kershaw and Aaron Tippin, on Saturday.
Season passes are available from any of the queen candidates through tomorrow (Saturday) at noon.

KWHI and KTEX-106 will broadcast live at various events during the fair, starting tomorrow (Saturday) at 10:30 a.m. with the fair parade and continuing with the queen’s crowning at 6 p.m. KWHI and KTEX-106 will also have the Wagon Wheel of Prizes at the fair Wednesday through Saturday. All proceeds from spins of the wheel will benefit the Washington County Firefighters Association.
In addition, KWHI will begin Washington County Fair reports tomorrow (Saturday), offering updates three times a day on livestock judging results and other fair activities. The reports will air during the morning, noon and evening newscasts.
