BLINN SOCCER TEAMS DROP PAIR OF 1-0 MATCHES TO ANGELINA

Blinn College men's soccer fell just short in a tough Region XIV loss to sixth-ranked Angelina College, falling 1-0 on Saturday at Hohlt Park's Rankin Field in Brenham, Texas.

The setback was the first of the season for the Buccaneers, who are now 5-1-1 on the year and 2-1 in region play.

Angelina scored the lone goal of the match in the first half and held on from there.

"The lads proved tonight that they can go toe-to-toe with one of the best teams in the country," Blinn head coach Michael McBride said. "In fact, we finished as the stronger team, which is striking. Games like this serve as invaluable experience for our young team as we look to grow during the season. Now it is onto another big test for us on Wednesday."

The Buccaneers travel to face region opponent Jacksonville College at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14, in Jacksonville, Texas.

No. 16 Angelina College needed almost every minute of Saturday's Region XIV tilt to fend off a game Blinn College women's soccer team.

In the end, the visiting Roadrunners did just enough to get past the Buccaneers for a 1-0 victory at Hohlt Park's Rankin Field in Brenham, Texas.

Angelina tallied the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute of play.

Freshman goalie Sydney Gibbs made four saves for Blinn.

Angelina out-shot the Bucs 4-3.

"To hold the 16th-ranked team in the nation to a scoreless tie all the way until the 82nd minute is a great accomplishment for the youngest team in the conference," Blinn head coach Alexandria Jackson said. "We have to move on from this game as more games are coming quick and fast."

The Buccaneers are now 3-1 on the season and 2-1 in the region standings.

They'll get back to work with a region road tilt at Jacksonville College at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14, in Jacksonville, Texas.
