BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO VOTE ON BID FOR ANNUAL CONCRETE WORK

The Brenham City Council will look to accept a bid on Thursday for annual concrete work to be performed throughout the city.

Each year, the city spends around $250,000 on concrete work such as curb work, flat work, concrete retaining walls, manhole installations, drainage box work and sidewalk repair.

The agenda packet for the meeting indicates that while multiple businesses submitted inquiries to the city, only one bid was formally submitted for the concrete work, coming from Concrete Solutions LLC.

In other business, the council will consider purchasing and installing playground equipment for Jackson Street Park.  The project is to provide a new playground for children ages 2-5, across the sidewalk from the current play structure for children ages 5-12.

The playground will be funded with $65,000 budgeted through the Brenham Community Development Corporation (BCDC).  The city received a quote from Cunningham Recreation in the amount of $64,999.

Also at Thursday’s meeting, the council will:

  • Consider a resolution adopting the city’s distribution pole management and inspection plan.  The plan is to meet requirements of the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) that were established through the Public Utility Regulatory Act as part of the 89th Texas Legislature.  The plan establishes requirements for the inspection and serviceability grading of covered structures, corrective actions and timelines, compliance reporting and record keeping.  It also requires the governing body of a municipally-owned utility to adopt the structural integrity standards laid out by the PUCT.
  • Act on an ordinance on its first reading providing for the abandonment of a 0.06-acre portion of the Farewell Street right-of-way.  The item comes as Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant is looking to add a new concrete parking lot; a portion of the parking area used by Guadalajara lies within the city’s right-of-way for Farewell Street.  City staff says abandoning the unneeded portion of right-of-way to the restaurant owners will allow the development of a parking lot that meets the city’s commercial standards, improves the overall site and reduces the right-of-way to a more appropriate width.
  • Hold executive session discussion to consult with an attorney regarding Brenham Municipal Airport matters and legal issues related to a potential agreement with the owner of a current development project.  No action is slated to be taken.

The council will meet Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
