150TH SCHUTZENFEST SATURDAY, SUNDAY IN ROUND TOP

A special milestone will be celebrated this weekend at the Schützenfest in Round Top.

This is the 150th year since the Round Top Schützen Verein was organized and staged its first Schützenfest on the outskirts of Round Top.  Tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday, the 150th installment of the free festival will take place at the Round Top Rifle Hall.

The festival gets underway tomorrow at 4 p.m. with musical performances by the Texas Bavarian Band and the yodeling group, Enzian Baum.  An evening meal of wurst, potatoes and coleslaw will be served.

Sunday morning, a private shooting competition will commence, ending once a new Schützenkönig, or “Shooting King”, has been named.  The Rifle Hall will open to the public at 2 p.m., and the Texas Bavarian Band will perform at 3 p.m.

The Schützenkönig crowning ceremony starts at 5 p.m. and will include the tapping of the ceremonial keg.  Guests can then enjoy an evening meal of pork steak, sausage and all the trimmings from Gary Goebel Catering.  The evening ends with music from the Gary Kunkel Band.
