WASHINGTON CO. APPRAISER ROLL CERTIFIED, SAYS CHIEF APPRAISER
Washington County appraisals are now considered certified for 2022.
Washington County Chief Appraiser Dyann White informed the appraisal district board on Tuesday that less than 5 percent of the appraisal roll is still under protest. As of Tuesday, there are approximately 470 protests still pending, making up 3.5 percent of the appraisal value in the county.
This year, the appraisal district has received a total of 2,924 protests, compared to 1,527 a year ago.
In action on Tuesday, board members approved receiving a letter from the Comptroller’s office regarding the 2021 property value study, which listed scores of “invalid” for Brenham and Burton ISD because values were too low. The receipt is a formality for when an appraisal district is found invalid in a study.
The board also adopted a resolution formally outlining the process of monthly billing to local taxing entities. Texas Property Tax Code Section 6.06(e) requires taxing units to pay their portion of the appraisal district budget in quarterly payments, but the Washington County Appraisal District’s long-standing practice has been to bill the taxing entities monthly.
It doesnt matter if you protest, everyone should just get another debt card for their account and put it in the Appraisal District’s name because whatever the amount, they will get it. All i have learned and know is that property tax should be illegal and is definitely NOT unbias or fair across the board. Im now going into year 7 of my home, according to their “system”, being more than 2X’s the market price. If i could find anyone who would offer anywhere near what the Appraisal District says, id throw in all my furniture, appliances, and personal belongings too! It has gotten out of hand and frankly i can not afford the rate increases anymore. Between the 9 different charges on the utilities bill and these taxes they must think we get pay raises every month and have cash just lying around. There has got to be another way to balance a budget other than take more from the citizens who honestly have no more to give. Looks like another 8+ generation Washington County resident is being billed right out of the county. Perhaps look closer at some of those $500k homes on 390 that havent had a tax id since being built 15 years ago or some of the ranches valued at $2+ million and only paying $465 in property tax. Ya, its fair alright, the struggling people foot the bill while those than can afford it and have the wealth use loopholes or flat out lie and get taxed a tiny fraction of what the value is….i guess its how wealthy get that way, they never pay for anything….
The only true fair tax is when it’s a flat tax and everyone pays. Includes so called non profits too. Ten percent and our politicians then have to manage what they get and be honest. We only have rights when we stand in the way of those that want to take those rights away. Show me an honest politician first? Nobody gets into politics to get poor can’t because you will not serve two masters.
