WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO CONSIDER RESERVE DEPUTY FOR PRECINCT 2 CONSTABLE’S OFFICE

The addition of a reserve deputy for the Washington County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office will be considered by County Commissioners on Tuesday.

Precinct 2 Constable George “Trey” Holleway III seeks to appoint James “Jay” Huffty as a reserve deputy constable for his office.  Huffty, who in July was named by Brenham ISD as its new director of safety and security, holds an active peace officer’s license from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.

Huffty was previously the director of safety and security for New Braunfels ISD and held status as a reserve deputy constable for the Comal County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office.

In a written request to commissioners, Holleway stated Huffty’s appointment would allow for additional law enforcement resources in Brenham ISD, augmenting the Brenham Police Department’s School Resource Officer program.

Holleway said the reserve deputy constable position is a non-paid position within the county and with the constable’s office.  However, expenses estimated at $1,631 would be required in order to properly equip Huffty with gear such as a uniform, badge, body camera and pepper gun.  The items can be purchased through the office’s existing budget.

The court will also potentially accept a donation of $110,815 from GeoSouthern Operating II, LLC.  The donation is for road reconstruction to repair damages to Old Gay Hill Road in Precinct 3.

Also on Tuesday, commissioners will:

  • Act on a final plat of Fork in the Road Meadows, a residential subdivision of 12 tracts totaling 27.89 acres at Harge Road in Precinct 3 and Eberhardt Road in Precinct 4.
  • Canvass votes for the November 8th general election.
  • Consider authorizing the county engineer to seek sealed competitive bids for culverts and tires for 2023.
  • Discuss a formal notice for a two-inch road bore for a one-inch service water line by PGMS at 1093 Geers Road in Precinct 3.
  • Hear monthly reports from the information technology department, emergency management coordinator, county and district clerks, justices of the peace, auditor, tax assessor-collector, treasurer, constables and elections department.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
