A former member of the Blinn College Board of Trustees has died.

Donald Hinton Jones died Sunday at the age of 83.

Jones served on the College’s board from 2004 to 2010, and was board secretary from 2008 to 2010.  He was also a member of the board of the Brenham Heritage Society.

In a statement, Blinn College said Jones “was a valued member of the Blinn Board of Trustees,” adding, “His student-focused leadership and deep affection for Blinn College leave a legacy that will forever be part of our College and community.”

Brenham High School was one of five Texas high schools Jones attended as a teenager.  It was in 10th grade at Brenham High School that he met his future wife, Suzann Seidel.

After graduating in 1961 from Texas A&M University, Jones in 1964 began a 35-year career at W.S. Bellows Construction in Houston, where he was involved in projects including several NASA Buildings, the first seven Target stores in Texas, 25 buildings at Fort Hood at the start of Vietnam, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, and renovation of the Bayou Bend Museum.  He was also very active in the Associated General Contracts organization, serving as a board member and president.

Upon retirement in 1999, Jones and Suzann moved to their ranch in Brenham, where they hosted many family and class reunions.  In 2021, they moved to College Station.

Visitation will take place on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham.
