MART DEFEATS BURTON 41-14 IN STATE SEMIFINAL GAME

The season came to an end last (Thursday) night for the Burton Panther Football Team as they fell to the Mart Panthers 41-14 at the State Semifinals in Round Rock.

Mart got on the board with a 48-yard touchdown pass from Jonah Ross to Brandon Lundy to put them up 7-0 with 1:47 left in the first quarter.

Mart pulled away in the second quarter with three touchdowns. De'Montrel Medlock scored on a 79 yard touchdown run at the 9:15 mark to make it 14-0.

Ross would hook up with Lundy again, this time for 64 yards, for a touchdown with 2:42 left in the half. Burton blocked the extra point to make Mart's lead 20-0.

J.D. Bell finished out the scoring on a 42 yard run with 47 seconds to go to make it 27-0 Mart at half time.

Mart scored the third quarter's lone touchdown on a 21 yard touchdown pass from Ross to Averion Johnson to increase their lead to 34-0.

Bell added one more insurance touchdown on a 65 yard run to make it 41-0 with 11 minutes left in the game.

Tyrone Gilmon barrels in for his only touchdown of the game.

Burton would score the final two touchdowns of the game. Tyrone Gilmon ran one in from three yards out to cut the lead to 41-7 with 5:35 left in the fourth quarter.

On the next drive, Burton was at the Mart 17 yard line. Gilmon fumbled the football, but Chad Schubert was there to pick it up and run it in to make it 41-14 with 2:08 left in the game.

Burton finishes the season, which saw them play all their games on the road, with a 13-1 record.

Tyrone Gilmon had 19 carries for 80 yard and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Delvin Gantt had 11 carries for 69 yards, and Pierson Spies finished with 11 carries for 56 yards.

For Mart, Jonah Ross was 9 out of 13 passing for 173 yards and three touchdowns. J.D Bell carried the ball nine carries for 189 yard and two touchdowns. Brandon Lundy had five catches for 129 yards and two touchdowns.

Mart now moves on to face Albany for the State Championship, which will be played Wednesday at 7pm at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
