WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS APPROVE SHERIFF’S OFFICE STIPEND PAY

Washington County Chief Deputy Jay Petrash
presents County Commissioners on Tuesday with a
request for a shift differential stipend for sheriff's
office employees.

Washington County Commissioners today (Tuesday) approved stipend pay for the sheriff’s office.

The shift differential stipend for the sheriff’s office follows the same parameters as the one approved for the E-911 department in March, giving employees an extra $2 per hour if they work night duty.

Chief Deputy Jay Petrash said this pay increase will aid the sheriff’s office in its recruitment efforts.

Several other items came before the court today in what proved to be a lengthy meeting.  Commissioners accepted donations from Philips Veterinary Hospital, Brenham National Bank, Cattleman’s Brenham Livestock, Washington County 4-H, Tegeler Toyota, Washington Animal Clinic and Citizens State Bank for the Washington County Expo.  The donations are for the purpose of purchasing new picnic tables to revitalize the food court area.

County Commissioners meeting. The three have
taken it upon themselves to keep the courthouse
gazebo decorated yearround.

Commissioners also reappointed current members of the Washington County Historical Commission and appointed three new members: David Lancaster, Brad Nies and Jonathan Failor.  A contract for representation of indigent defendants for district court was approved with attorneys Aaron Kleinschmidt, Lee Richardson, Scott Ballard and Sandra Ramirez.

After the end of the regular meeting, commissioners held a public meeting concerning two items for the Pecan Glen Road District.  They approved a change order and a second payment application to the Pecan Glen roadway improvements project from Schrader Construction Company.

The second payment is for $294,335, while the change order will actually be a reduction, saving $7,100.  The road upgrades are being funded with bond proceeds approved by Pecan Glen voters in May 2021.  Only residents within the road district’s boundaries are paying the added tax to support the improvements.

In other items, commissioners:

  • Heard reports on economic development from Brenham | Washington County Economic Development Director Susan Cates; monthly reports from the sheriff’s office, E-911, EMS and the Veterans Service Officer; and a quarterly impact report from the Washington County Extension Service.
  • Approved a hiring salary increase for the addressing and mapping coordinator position.
  • Approved revisions to the indigent funeral services contract.
  • Accepted the annual bid items for the county engineer: fuel, road construction material, drive bridge piling, oils and asphalts, steel products, culverts and vehicle tires.
  • Approved a partial replat consolidating two tracts into one in the Chappell Ridge subdivision in Precinct 2.
  • Approved two 12-inch lay flat water transfer lines within right-of-way for a duration of two months.  One is at Christian Cemetery Road in Precinct 4, and the other is at Rehburg Road in Precinct 3.
