2022 RECAP: BRENHAM ISD SUPT. DR. TYLOR CHAPLIN

addresses the Brenham School Board during a
meeting in March.
As 2023 approaches, KWHI is visiting with local officials to get their thoughts on the past year and how the new year may go.
We start with Brenham ISD Superintendent Dr. Tylor Chaplin, who provided a recap of 2022 and went over what the school district expects in the coming year.
The topic that dominated this year was the two bond proposals centered on building a new junior high school and addressing other facility needs. Both propositions were unsuccessful, and while it is not known if or when Brenham ISD goes out for another bond election, Dr. Chaplin says those discussions will happen soon.
School safety and security was also a focus, as the district committed $1.4 million for safety improvements and hired a new safety and security director. Other events of note included moving custodial services in-house, leadership changes at the district and campus level, and increasing pay to help keep and attract staff.
Dr. Chaplin says a strong emphasis is being placed next year on helping students learn to love reading.
The Brenham ISD community enjoyed many successes and milestones this year, like strong seasons for the athletic programs, the Brenham High School MCJROTC traveling to Florida to compete at nationals, creation of the Cubs Closet to provide clothing and toiletries for those in need, and Brenham Middle School’s Monica Fricke being named by the Region 6 Education Service Center as Counselor of the Year for grades 5-8.
As Texas legislators prepare to head back to Austin for their next session, Dr. Chaplin hopes they are able to make progress in giving teachers and educators the respect they deserve.
Dr. Chaplin joined Brenham ISD in September 2020 after serving as the superintendent of Burkburnett ISD.
new schools will not make students smarter better teaching does this so let’s spend the money on teachers and not buildings
