BELLVILLE GRADUATE WITH LONG FIREFIGHTING CAREER DIES
A long time Austin Firefighter and member of Texas A&M Task Force One died yesterday (Wednesday) after a valiant fight against cancer.
Austin Fire Department Battalion Chief Travis Maher passed away at the age of 49.
Maher was a 1992 graduate of Bellville High School, and a 1996 graduate of Texas A&M University.
He had spent the last 23 years as a member of the Austin Fire Department, and the last 21 years as a member of Texas Task Force One.
Maher was one of ten members of the Austin Fire Department that was sent to Ground Zero to help in the rescue efforts after the Twin Towers fell on 9/11.

As part of Task Force One, he was deployed to help with many significant disasters over the years.
Maher is survived by his wife Lauren, as well as his two sons, Riley and Maddox.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
