WASHINGTON CO. OFFICIALS TO BE SWORN IN FOR NEW TERMS SUNDAY

Dustin Majewski

New and returning officials in Washington County will begin their first or next terms in office at a swearing-in ceremony on New Year’s Day.

Elected officials and the public will meet at 10 a.m. Sunday in the district courtroom of the Washington County Courthouse for the oath of office, following the 2022 elections.

One new face in county government will be Dustin Majewski, who succeeds the outgoing Precinct 4 County Commissioner Joy Fuchs.  Majewski did not have an opponent in the March Republican primary or the November general election.

Duane "Dane" Houston

Duane “Dane” Houston will begin his elected term in office on Sunday as the Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace.  Houston, who defeated Daniel McCarthy in the Republican primary and was unopposed in November, was sworn in in April to fill the unexpired term of Ken Tofel, who retired from the post in June 2021.  Tofel’s term concludes at the end of this year.  Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Douglas Cone, who himself starts another term on Sunday, temporarily filled the Precinct 3 vacancy prior to Houston being sworn in earlier this year.

In addition, H.C. “Buddy” Riddle will be administered the oath for Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace.  Riddle, filling the post of the retiring Bill Kendall, was uncontested in March and in November.

Also set to receive the oath is Precinct 2 County Commissioner Candice Bullock, who begins her second term after defeating Mark Schonefeld in the Republican primary and running unopposed in the fall.

A total of 11 oaths will be administered at the ceremony.  Aside from Majewski, Houston, Cone, Riddle and Bullock, officials that will be sworn in for a new term are County Judge John Durrenberger, Court at Law Judge Eric Berg, District Clerk Tammy Brauner, County Clerk Beth Rothermel, County Treasurer Peggy Kramer, and Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Douglas Zwiener.
