DRUGS, SMARTPHONES FOUND NEAR NAVASOTA PRISON UNIT
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) is investigating after a large bag of contraband was discovered at the Luther Unit near Navasota.
According to the TDCJ, the bag contained approximately 8.6 ounces of K2, or synthetic marijuana; tobacco; and 20 smartphones and phone chargers.
The bag was found on December 19th behind the Trusty Camp. The discovery was announced on Thursday, although it is not known who found the bag.
The Luther Unit is an all-male, medium security prison located 10 miles southwest of Navasota off Highway 6 on FM 2. The institution houses approximately 1,326 inmates, including 1,102 inside the Luther Unit and 214 in the Trusty Camp.
No other information on the investigation was released.
