FILING WINDOW OPEN FOR LOCAL CITY COUNCIL, SCHOOL BOARD RACES

Filing opens today for positions on the Brenham and Burton School Boards, Burton City Council, and a majority of the Brenham City Council.

Four seats on the Brenham School Board and three on the Burton School Board will appear on the May 6th election ballot.

On the Brenham School Board, the seats of Dr. Michael Altman, Susan Jenkins, Kelvin Raven and the vacant position of former trustee Mark Schneider will be up for election.  For the Burton School Board, the positions held by Dean Fuchs, Misty Lucherk and Donna Putnam will be on the ballot.

Four positions on the Brenham and Burton City Councils will also be up for election.  However, one of the Brenham council seats – the Ward 3 position held by Atwood Kenjura before he declared his candidacy for mayor – is part of a special election and will not be open for filing until February 2nd.

The remaining Brenham council seats up for election are those of Mayor Milton Tate, who is not running for re-election, Ward 2 Councilmember Albert Wright and Ward 4 Councilmember Adonna Saunders.

Meanwhile for Burton, the vacant position of mayor, as well as the seats of Position 1 Councilmember and current Mayor Pro-Tem Nathan Kalkhake, Position 3 Councilmember Jeff Eckhardt, who was appointed in June after Jason Schoenvogel chose not to run for another term, and Position 4 Councilmember Paul McLaughlin will appear on the ballot.

The window to formally file for candidacy ends on Friday, February 17th.  That does not include Brenham’s Ward 3 council seat, which will take applications for a spot on the ballot from Thursday, February 2nd through Monday, March 6th

Early voting will begin Monday, April 24th and end Tuesday, May 2nd
