An 11 year old Houston boy that has been diagnosed with terminal brain and spine cancer made a special visit to the Austin County Sheriff’s Office in Bellville earlier today (Tuesday).

Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel always wanted to be a police officer.  As a way to raise awareness for childhood cancer, he has been going to different law enforcement agencies and getting sworn in as an honorary officer.

Austin County Sheriff Jack Brandes swore in DJ as an honorary deputy, which was a task that Brandes said he was “extremely honored” to do.

Sheriff Jack Brandes had
the honor of swearing in DJ.

Daniel originally set a goal of joining 100 law enforcement agencies. He reached that goal very quickly.

Now he is currently working on 758 agencies.  The number is in honor of Abigail Arias of Freeport.  She was also sworn in as an honorary deputy, and her badge number was 758.

Arias died in 2020 at the age of 7.

Daniel is also closing on that number as well.
