A local construction manager is in the running to become a Brenham School Board trustee.

Kyle Hafner has filed for the seat held by Susan Jenkins, who is not seeking re-election.  He is one of two candidates who have filed for the position, the other being Artis Edwards Sr.

Born and raised in Brenham, Hafner has been in the construction business for five years and currently works at Mill Creek Custom Homes.

Hafner calls himself “just a regular dad” and wants to ensure that the principles he was taught as a student in Brenham are passed on to the leaders of tomorrow.

Hafner says his experience as a construction manager has taught him how to manage budgets and be fiscally responsible.

Hafner strives to keep transparency for parents and teachers, and feels parental choice and rights should be paramount in a child’s education.  Above all, he wishes to keep the family as the board’s focus in any decisions.

The race between Hafner and Edwards is one of currently two that will be contested in the May 6th election.  Incumbent Dr. Michael Altman will face Archer Archer.  Kelvin Raven does not have an opponent for his school board position, and Bonnie Brinkmeyer, running to fill the vacant seat of former trustee Mark Schneider, is also unopposed.

The final day to apply for a place on the ballot is February 17th.
