BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER ELECTION ITEMS

Items pertaining to the May 6th election will come before the Burton City Council on Tuesday.

Councilmembers will look to accept and approve an order of election, election services contract between the City of Burton and Washington County, and an interlocal contract between the city and Burton ISD for the spring general election.  In addition, they will potentially appoint election judges and clerks and set hourly rates for them.

Also on Tuesday, the council will consider approval of a water and sewer ordinance regarding payment procedures for water and sewer service, taps, line extensions, and water and sewer rates.  The ordinance would outline and establish new rates and provide necessary clauses.

The council plans to schedule a public hearing for the 2023-24 general budget and water and sewer budget for March 14th at 5:30 p.m.  In addition, it will consider accepting an engagement letter as submitted by Medack & Oltmann, LLP to perform the annual audit of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2023.

In other action, councilmembers will take up:

  • Approval of a resolution authorizing the city to enter into an agreement with the state to close a segment of the state highway system in the downtown area of the city for the annual Cotton Gin Festival scheduled for April 15th
  • An ordinance changing the price per square foot stated in the procedures for seeking approval of acquisition of road and alleyway abandoned right of way policy.
  • An ordinance authorizing and directing the mayor pro-tem to abandon, close and convey a portion of the Pecan Street right-of-way abutting 820 North Colorado Street to Belinda Gwin.
  • A resolution adopting and/or reaffirming civil rights policies and procedures, to include the HUD Section 3 presentation, for the Texas Community Development Block Grant (TxCDBG) City of Burton contract.
  • A resolution authorizing the submission of an application for the 2023-24 TxCDBG Community Development Fund Competition.
  • A resolution authorizing signatories for the 2023-24 application and future grants administered through the Texas Department of Agriculture TDA Go Grants online.

The council will meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Burton City Hall.
