MICHAEL McFRAZIER NAMED PVAMU’S ACTING PRESIDENT
Prairie View A&M University has named an interim president to serve until the start of its new president this summer.
Dr. Michael McFrazier, who is currently the Dean of PVAMU’s College of Education, will begin his time as acting president on March 1st. He will serve until Dr. Tomikia LeGrande assumes leadership as the university’s ninth president on June 1st.
McFrazier was appointed as professor and dean at PVAMU in 2019 after working as interim dean at the education college and holding a number of senior leadership positions.
McFrazier said he is “honored to have been asked to serve” and that he will work diligently to continue the university’s “established legacy of achieving excellence in teaching, research, and service.”
McFrazier’s appointment follows the decision of current president Ruth J. Simmons to resign at the end of February. Simmons plans to join Rice University as a President’s Distinguished Fellow on April 1st.
