WASHINGTON COUNTY 4-HERS WIN CHAMPIONSHIP IN SAN ANTONIO

  

Fourteen members from Washington County 4-H participated in the recent 74th San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Consumer Decision Making Contest.

The Washington County White Team consisting of high school students Alex Dallmeyer, Madison Moran, Audrey Schmidt, and Haylie Niemeyer, earned first place overall honors and finished as the Champion Senior Team with 1,157 points.  

Dallmeyer was also the first place Senior High Point Individual, earning a belt buckle, and a $10,000 San Antonio Scholarship. Meanwhile, Schmidt finished 5th overall, Moran was 9th overall, and Dalton Winklemann, who competed as an individual, finished 11th overall. 

In the Intermediate Division, which is made up of students in grades 6-8, Washington County finished 11th overall.  Team members included Mallory Winklemann, Audrey Schaer, Candace Stringfellow, Ryan Leutkenhaus, and Ryan Elliott.

In the Juniors Division, which is made up of students in Grades 3-5, Washington County finished second overall. The team consisted of Austin Dallmeyer, Gretchen Merten, Lane Damron, and Madison Fridye. Individually, Dallmeyer earned 3rd place overall, while Merten finished 8th.

Individuals from all over the state of Texas made up the list of 262 contestants, who judged six classes, and talked reasons on classes depending on age level.

The purpose of the contest is to gain skills in making decisions based on facts and to gain knowledge in consumer education by analyzing consumer situations.

Washington County members are coached by County Extension Agent Hannah Krebs.
