BRENHAM CUBETTES WIN TWO ON FINAL DAY OF TOURNAMENT

The Brenham Cubette Softball Team won both of their games on the final day of the Brenham Tournament to finish the annual event with a 5-1 record.

Brenham scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Avery Maurer led it off with a single, stole second, went to third on a passed ball, and then scored on a groundout by Halle Scheel to make it 1-0.

In the second inning, Stella Landry drew a two out walk. Nevaeh Holmes came in to courtesy run for the Cubette catcher, and quickly took second on a wild pitch. McKenzie Tiemann then hit an RBI double to score Holmes, and Brenham was up 2-0.

Lexington scored a pair of runs in the top of the 3rd to tie it 2-2. The Cubettes got the lead back on an RBI triple by Maurer, who then scored on another RBI groundout by Scheel to make it 3-2 Brenham.

The Lady Eagles tied it again with another run in the top of the 4th to make it 3-3, and one in the 5th to make it 4-3 Lexington.

It would stay that way until the Cubettes picked up a couple of runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 5-4 Brenham. Pinch-hitter Riley Meyer singled, and Holmes ran for her as well. She would score on an error. Later in the inning, Maurer reached on a fielder's choice, and Kaylyn Rodriguez had an RBI single that brought Maurer home.

Della Jasinski got the win in relief. Starter Heidi Busker gave up three runs in three in three innings, only two were earned, while not walking anyone and striking out two.

Jasinski went four innings, 1 hit, 1 , no walks, and 5 strikeouts.

The game was scoreless until the third inning. McKenzie Tiemann was hit by a pitch. Avery Maurer followed with a single. They both moved up on a wild pitch that Tiemann scored all the way from second on. Scheel reached safely on a suicide squeeze bunt that also scored Maurer. Scheel then stole second and third. Kaylyn Rodriguez followed with a second straight suicide squeeze that scored Scheel to put the Cubettes up 3-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Stella Landry drew a one out walk. Nevaeh Holmes came on to run for her. Tiemann sacrifice bunted Holmes to second. Maurer followed with an RBI double that scored Holmes to make it 4-0 Brenham.

Kinley Antkowiak led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a single, stole second, and then went to third on an overthrow. She would later score on an RBI triple by Maurer. Halle Scheel followed with an RBI single that scored Maurer to put the Cubettes up 6-0.

Della Jasinski went all seven innings, allowing only two hits, walking five, and striking out nine.

Next up, the Cubettes (15-6) travel to College Station on Tuesday night to resume district play against A&M Consolidated. First pitch is at 6:30pm.
