BURTON LADY PANTHERS GET TWO MORE TOURNAMENT WINS

The Burton Lady Panther Softball Team wrapped up the Burton Tournament on Saturday with a pair of victories.

The Panthers got their offense going in the bottom of the first inning with as Paige Fritsch and Amaya Williams hit back to back singles. Bailey Glaesmann brought them home with a two run double that put Burton ahead 2-0.

In the second inning, Melanie Wood drew a two out walk, and Reagan Roemer followed with a single. Fritsch then smashed a double that scored Wood to increase the lead to 3-0 Lady Panthers. Williams reached on an infield hit that scored Roemer. Glaesmann singled to load the bases, and then Aerynn Huntsman drew a walk that scored Fritsch, and Burton was up 5-0 after two innings.

The Lady Panthers put the finishing touches on the Lady Bobcats with five runs in the fifth inning. Kalli Pohl singled, Wood walked, and Roemer singled to load the bases. Fritsch hit an RBI single that scored Pohl. Williams slugged a triple that cleared the bases, and then scored on a wild pitch to make it 10-0 and enforce the mercy rule.

Glaesmann picked up the win in the circle going five scoreless innings, allowing only two hits, one walk, and striking out nine.

Brazos Christian scored one run in the top of the first inning, but that would be it for them for the rest of the game.

In the bottom of the first, Fritsch was hit by a pitch, and Williams walked. Fritsch later came around to steal home and tie it 1-1. Glaesmann walked, and Huntsman singled home Williams to make it 2-1 Lady Panthers. Glaesmann scored on a passed ball, and Jennifer Lopez singled home Huntsman to increase the lead to 4-1 Burton. Lopez advanced to second on a wild pitch, and then Pohl walked. Lopez then scored on a passed ball, and Pohl later in the inning scored on another wild pitch to put Burton up 6-1.

The Lady Panthers put the game away with ten runs in the second inning. Fritsch started it off with a double, and then Williams was hit by a pitch. Glaesmann brought them home on a two run double. Huntsman singled home Glaesmann. Allie Biggs walked. Huntsman scored on a passed ball, and then Lopez singled home Biggs to put Burton ahead 11-1.

Pohl walked. Lopez came around to score on a wild pitch. Keyonna Ray reached on a wild pitch on strike three that also allowed Pohl to score. Roemer reached on an infield hit. Ray later stole both third and home. Roemer would also come home on a sacrifice fly by Fritsch. Williams doubled, and then scored on a double by Huntsman to make it 16-1.

The game was called after the rarely used 15 runs after three innings mercy rule.

Paige Fritsch got the win going three no-hit innings, allowing just one earned run, four walks, and striking out eight.

Next up, Burton will return to district play tomorrow (Tuesday) as they visit Somerville at 5pm.
