DOWNTOWN BRENHAM WELCOMES 11TH ANNUAL TEXAS ARTS & MUSIC FESTIVAL

Students participate in the Texas Arts and Music
Festival's Art Education Day on Thursday. One of the
activities on the day was a still life drawing
demonstration at Unity Theatre.

The Texas Arts and Music Festival marks its 11th annual installment this weekend in downtown Brenham.

Thursday, local and area students met with art professionals and this year’s muralists as part of the festival’s Art Education Day, where they engaged in guided tours and drawing activities.

The free festival officially opens today (Friday) and runs through Sunday, featuring live painting exhibitions, live music, a juried art show and an art village with dozens of vendors.

Three new murals are being painted this year: the Gateway mural on Austin Street between Main and Alamo Streets, in front of 2tinygallery by Toubin Park, and on South St. Charles Street by Alamo Street.

The mural artists this year are Anat Ronen, Lindsey Millikan and Jennifer Pergande.  Printmaker and sculptor Dennis McNett will lead a mask painting workshop tomorrow (Saturday) for all ages.

An opening reception for the juried art show will be held this evening from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Brenham Heritage Museum, with over 50 works by artists from across Texas, including entries from Brenham High School and Blinn College.  Refreshments will be provided, and there will be live music by Zach Hyde.  Admission is free to the juried art show throughout the festival.
