HEMPSTEAD ISD COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER TO RECEIVE AWARD

(Hempstead ISD)

Hempstead ISD Chief Communications Officer Valonia Walker has been named as a recipient for a prestigious honor.

The National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) selected Walker for their “35 Under 35” Award.

The award goes to young professionals in the field of school communications who have made significant contributions to their profession and demonstrated exceptional promise for the future.

Walker is a graduate of Baylor University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, and Texas Tech, where she received a master’s degree in Strategic Communication and Innovation. Walker is also Accredited in Public Relations (APR) through the Public Relations Society of America.

Walker joined Hempstead ISD in June of 2022. During her time there, the school district says that Walker has been instrumental in elevating their communication efforts, ensuring the community is informed, and engaged in the district’s programs and initiatives.

She is also leading the implementation of a district communication plan, which includes utilizing social media and other digital platforms.

Hempstead ISD Superintendent Herbert O’Neil said that Walker brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion to her role, and has made a significant impact on their district and the students they serve.

Walker will officially receive her “35 Under 35” Award in July at the NSPRA’s National Conference in St. Louis, Missouri.
