CUBS SPLIT GAMES ON FINAL DAY OF ALUMNI TOURNAMENT

The Brenham Cub Baseball Team split their final two games of the Brenham Alumni Tournament to finish the weekend with a 4-2 record.

CEDAR RIDGE 2 BRENHAM 1

Cedar Ridge jumped out to an early 1-0 lead the top of the 4th inning.

The Cubs got their only run of the game in the bottom of the 5th inning on a solo homer by Grant Rogas to tie it 1-1.

The Raiders scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 7th inning to take a 2-1 lead.

Brody Hemann took the tough luck loss despite pitching well enough to win. He went seven innings, allowing two runs, only one of those was earned, seven hits, no walks, and two strikeouts.

BRENHAM 8 MORTON RANCH 1

The Cubs got things going in the bottom of the second inning on a double by Gunner Gee. Grady Gee drew a walk. Both of the Gee brothers then scored on an RBI single by Tanner Reese to put Brenham in front 2-0.

The Mavericks scored their only run in the top of the 4th to cut the lead to 2-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, Drake Bentke doubled, while Rogas and Gunner Gee both walked to load the bases. Barrett Kohring came in to run for Gee. Landry Mendoza hit a two-run single that scored Bentke and Rogas. Jacob Mabie hit an RBI double that scored Kohring. Grady Gee then hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Mendoza. The Cubs were up 6-1.

Brenham would add two more runs in the bottom of the sixth before the time limit expired. Lane Sparks walked, stole second, and move to third on a groundout by Wooten. Bentke was hit by a pitch. Then, Sparks scored on a double steal that also saw Bentke go to second. Rogas then singled Bentke home to put the Cubs in front 8-1.

Brady Boenker picked up the win going four innings, allowing five hits, one unearned run, two walks, and striking out three. Gunner Gee picked up a save going the final two innings and not allowing a hit or a run, walking one, and striking out one.

Next up, the Cubs (13-5) will open District 21-5A play this week against the College Station Cougars. They will play Tuesday afternoon at 1pm at Fireman's Park. They will then play again on Thursday afternoon at 1pm at College Station High School.
