FLATONIA POSTMASTER ARRESTED FOR MURDER
The Postmaster at the Flatonia Post Office found himself back in the Lavaca County Jail after a man he shot earlier this month passed away.
44-year-old Michael McKim was arrested last Wednesday by Investigators with the Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers for the murder of 47-year-old Jason Pilat of Shiner.
Bond was set at $500,000, which McKim posted on Saturday and was released.
The charge stems from an incident that occurred back on March 5.
According to a report from the Fayette County Record, McKim was trying to find his wife with the help of his daughter, who was using a cellphone tracker.
Her vehicle was found at Pilat’s home. The Sheriff’s Office said that McKim removed a 9mm pistol from his wife’s vehicle, and started banging on the door to the residence.
An altercation ensued followed by a gunshot.
McKim then waited for law enforcement to arrive and was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
Bond was set at $100,000, which he posted and was released the next day.
Pilat was taken to a hospital in San Antonio, where he died 12 days later.
Because of Pilat’s death, the charge was upgraded to murder, which necessitated McKim being arrested a second time.
