NEW MAYORS ELECTED IN BRENHAM, BURTON

  

The residents of Brenham and Burton have chosen who will lead them as mayor.

Atwood Kenjura defeated Keith Hofmann 1,135 – 753 in Saturday’s election to fill the seat being vacated by Milton Tate, who chose not to run for office again after nearly 20 years as mayor. 

Kenjura said he is thankful for the public’s support and for Tate’s years of service.   He wishes to be a strong guiding force for the city, helping it keep what makes it special as it continues to grow.

Hofmann said he will take items that were a focus during his campaign, such as tax abatements, the city’s permitting process and federal grant opportunities, and provide them as a list to city leaders in the hope that they keep tabs on them.

The City of Brenham had 9,873 registered voters for this election and saw 1,888 ballots cast over early voting and Election Day.

In the City of Burton, Karen Buck bested David Zajicek 56 – 47 to be named the next mayor.  

Buck thanked Councilmember and Mayor Pro-Tem Nathan Kalkhake for his service as mayor and said she is eager to get to work.

Zajicek is confident in Buck’s ability to lead the city.

Position 3 council incumbent Jeff Eckhardt won re-election 58 – 33 over challenger Peter Horn. 

Eckhardt is thankful for the outcome, but is also appreciative for Burton residents having the opportunity to make a choice through this election.

Horn said he will continue to remain involved and assist the city however possible. 

The City of Burton saw 103 votes cast in the mayor’s race and 91 in the Position 3 race.  The city had 263 registered voters for the election. 

All results are considered unofficial until they are canvassed by the city councils.
