NAVASOTA POLICE OFFICER HOSPITALIZED FOLLOWING TRAFFIC CRASH

A Navasota Police Officer was taken to the hospital after stopping to investigate a single vehicle crash on Saturday morning.

Police responded to Highway 6 northbound at the Navasota River bridge around 11am.

Officers arrived and found that a vehicle had struck the river bridge barriers and was disabled in the left lane of traffic.

One of the patrol cars parked behind the crashed vehicle, and the other parked south of the crash to divert and slow traffic to the right lane.

Navasota Police reports say that a vehicle traveling north changed lanes between the two patrol units, and then crashed into the rear of the first patrol unit.

One of the officers stated that he was about to exit the patrol unit, but saw the approaching vehicle and braced for impact.

The occupants of the vehicle were treated on the scene by medics. The officer was screened and then taken to the hospital for further scans.  He was released later that afternoon.

A Texas DPS Trooper was requested to investigate the crash involving the police unit.  Wet roads and speed were found to be the contributing factor.

Local law enforcement wants to remind everyone to slow down on wet roads.  Also, when first responders have their lights activated, move over and slow down.
