UNEMPLOYMENT DOWN IN AREA FOR APRIL

  

Unemployment rates in Washington and area counties are down for the second straight month after spiking to start the year.

Per the Texas Workforce Commission, Washington County’s jobless rate in April was 3.7 percent, down from 4.3 percent in March.

The number of unemployed residents in the county dropped from 665 in March to 560 last month.

Overall employment numbers and the total civilian labor force also declined.  From March to April, employment dipped from 14,854 to 14,748, while the labor force fell from 15,519 to 15,308.

This April’s unemployment numbers are comparable to April of 2022, when the county reported an unemployment rate of 3.6 percent and 551 residents out of work.

The state’s adjusted unemployment rate remained the same for the third straight month, recording at 4 percent in April.

Meanwhile, in area counties:

  • Austin County – 3.4 percent, down from 3.9 percent in March.
  • Brazos County – 2.8 percent, down from 3.1 percent.
  • Burleson County – 3.3 percent, down from 3.7 percent.
  • Fayette County – 3.4 percent, down from 3.5 percent in March.
  • Grimes County – 4.1 percent, down from 4.8 percent.
  • Lee County – 3.3 percent, down from 3.8 percent.
  • Waller County – 4 percent, down from 4.5 percent.
