SUBJECT WITH AIRSOFT RIFLE DETAINED AFTER TWO NAVASOTA ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES GO INTO SOFT LOCKDOWN

  

Two Navasota elementary schools went into a brief soft lockdown this (Tuesday) morning after reports of a weapon near campus.

A release from the City of Navasota says just after 9:45 a.m., police dispatch received several calls in reference to a male subject wearing dark clothing, riding a bicycle and possessing an assault weapon. 

Calls stated the subject was near Webb Elementary School but traveling towards Brule Elementary School, prompting Navasota ISD to place the schools into a soft lockdown.

Police patrolled the areas between the schools and quickly located a subject in possession of an assault rifle, which was found to actually be an airsoft rifle with the orange safety markings identifying it as an airsoft rifle having been painted over.  According to the release, the subject stated he was playing a prank on a friend.

The suspect was detained, and Navasota ISD was given the all clear shortly before 10:15 a.m. to continue classes as normal.

The release did not provide the age of the male or specify if he was a student in Navasota ISD.
