FAYETTE COUNTY MAN HOSPITALIZED AFTER A BEE ATTACK

A Fayette County man was hospitalized after being attacked by a swarm of bees on Tuesday afternoon.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that a 9-1-1 call came in shortly after 4:30pm.  The caller reported a man laying on the ground and being attacked by bees in the Plum community.

Sgt. Ron Naumann along with Deputies Joe Gonzales and Holly Smith responded to the scene along with the Fayette County EMS and the La Grange Fire Department.

Deputy Gonzales arrived on the scene first and used a fire extinguisher to attempt to stop the bees from stinging the male subject.

EMS personnel, Deputy Smith, and Sgt. Naumann arrived shortly afterwards and assisted in getting the victim away from the bees.

The victim was transported to the Smithville Airport and flown by PHI helicopter to Dell Seton Hospital in Austin where he is listed critical condition.  The victim’s name is not being released at this time.

Deputy Gonzales, EMS personnel, and one civilian suffered several stings and breathed in the dry powder discharge from the fire extinguisher during the emergency.

They were all treated at St. Mark’s Hospital in La Grange and later released.
