A new elementary school for Faith Academy in Bellville took a step closer to reality after groundbreaking ceremonies were held last week.

School personnel, Bellville Chamber of Commerce members, and other supporters gathered as Faith Academy broke ground on a new two-story, 47,000 square foot campus on June 1.

The new elementary school campus is being constructed on land that at one time had been the Old Nelson Plant Food property.

The need for a new campus was because enrollment has outgrown the current campus.

Faith Academy was founded in 1994, and over the years has continued to expand. Their property now encompasses over 40 acres.

The current elementary campus was originally the gymnasium, and it was renovated into the elementary campus in 2007.

Project Head Bill Byler told the Bellville Times that once the new elementary school is complete, the old elementary school building is going to be converted back into a gymnasium.

Faith Academy Founder Merlene Byler said that they expect the new elementary campus to fill up quickly too.
