28-year-old Nicolas Hinojosa of Taft, near Corpus Christi, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred just after 5 p.m. in the 16900 block of Highway 36.

According to a release from Somerville Police Chief Jake Sullivan, Hinojosa was driving northbound in a 2019 GMC pickup when he was struck head-on by a southbound 2007 Ford F-150 pickup driven by 31-year-old Jose Vega Daniel Rodriguez.

Traveling with Hinojosa was 62-year-old Barry Tisdale of Waller, who was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in College Station.  Rodriguez was also injured and taken to St. Joseph in Bryan.

Tisdale has been released from the hospital, while Rodriguez remains in stable condition.

Sullivan said preliminary investigation indicates alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the accident for Rodriguez.  Police are continuing their investigation and weighing the possibility of charges.
