SEVERAL AGENCIES AID IN RESCUE ATOP COMMUNICATIONS TOWER IN NAVASOTA

First responders in Navasota rescued a crew member from a tower Thursday afternoon after they suffered a possible heat-related illness.

Around 4:30 p.m., the Navasota Fire Department responded to Mid-South Synergy at 7625 Highway 6 North.

Firefighters and Navasota police arrived and spoke to the tower crew leader on the ground, who said two of his team members were up on a communications tower roughly 300 feet in the air and that one of them was in and out of consciousness.

Upon ascending the tower, a rescuer found one of the crew members unconscious.

The member was lowered to the ground with a ropes system.  They were transferred to St. Joseph EMS for treatment and later transported via helicopter to a local hospital.

The other crew member came down from the tower on his own power.

Assisting Navasota firefighters and police were the Bryan Fire Department and Fire Marshal’s Office, St. Joseph EMS and PHI Air Med 12.
