Last week, the Giddings City Council approved a public event application for Street Market Days, to be held the second Saturday of each month from July to November, taking place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The market will be stationed in the parking lot area off of Burleson Street, between Main Street and Railroad Row.

Vendors are anticipated to sell goods like clothing, accessories, jams and jellies, cheeses, microgreens, dog treats and cultural items.

According to the Giddings Times & News, the event is led by Darla Hilmo, who wants to promote Giddings as a destination and not just a “drive-through.”  She said the market had previously been located on FM 141, but the location was not panning out as desired.

Hilmo does not expect full meals to be served at the market, which would incentivize shoppers to visit local restaurants.

Mayor Pro-Tem Alan Casey said there would likely need to be sales taxes charged on the purchase of non-food items.  City Manager Spencer Schneider said he would report back to the council with information on relevant sales tax regulations.
