BURTON SCHOOL BOARD APPROVES REBIDS FOR BOND PROJECT
The Burton School Board on Wednesday approved a pair of rebids that are expected to save over $1 million for Burton ISD’s bond project.
Trustees approved a concrete bid from Tucker Construction for $2.37 million and a plumbing bid from Moeller MEP for $3.08 million. The bids are for the entire scope of the project.
DSA Construction Management Project Manager Stad Tomlinson said by going out for new bids, the district will save around $840,000 on the concrete portion of the project and a little over $315,000 on plumbing.
Tomlinson explained that DSA understood some of the original bids received were on the higher side, so the firm wanted to go out for rebid to get those numbers down to a spot it was more comfortable with. He said that process has saved a “pretty substantial amount of money,” adding there are still some contracts that have not been awarded yet in order to potentially save on other pieces of the project.
As far as the timeline, Tomlinson said while the spring rain pushed back the schedule, there have been no delays pertaining to contractors or materials. He said current plans are for the track and field to open up in late October or early November, followed by the high school in mid-spring 2024 and the junior high in January 2025.
