FOURTH OF JULY FESTIVITIES ALL AROUND AREA

  

Independence Day celebrations get underway today (Friday) through the Fourth of July.

Plenty of activities will be taking place in Washington and surrounding counties:

FRIDAY

  • In Brenham, a Stars & Stripes Senior Citizen Parade will allow the public to celebrate the Fourth of July with local senior citizens.  The parade will first meet at the Hohlt Park amphitheater parking lot at 9:30 a.m. before traveling to seven assisted living centers in the county.
  • Navasota’s Freedom Festival in downtown will feature a parade at 6 p.m., music from the Texas Unlimited Band at 7 p.m. and a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. at Brule Field.  There will also be food and drink vendors, kids’ activities and a cornhole tournament.

SATURDAY

  • Harmonie Hall in Shelby will mark America’s birthday with music from the Risky Liver Band.  Doors open at 7 p.m., and the dance begins at 8 p.m.  Tickets are $10 cash at the door.  The bar and kitchen will be open.

MONDAY

  • The Giddings Freedom Fest will bring the Lost Cause Band and Texas Unlimited Band to Veterans Park for an evening of music from 5 to 10 p.m.  Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets.
  • Elizabeth Lutheran Church in Caldwell will host its celebration and fireworks display from 6 to 11 p.m.  Activities will include live music, games, food vendors, inflatables, a silent auction and a drawing, along with fireworks to round out the event.

TUESDAY

  • Chappell Hill’s “Biggest Small Town Parade” begins at 10 a.m. in downtown with the firing of the Kingfisher Cannon and performances by the “World Famous Marching Kazoo Band”.  Rob Moorman & Company will provide pre- and post-parade entertainment.  Visitors can also enjoy shopping, dining and face painting.
  • Round Top’s Fourth of July Parade and Celebration will have activities on the town square starting at 10 a.m., with the firing of the Round Top Cannon kicking off the parade at 10:30 a.m.  The parade will be followed by a barbecue meal at the Round Top Rifle Hall, a drawing, and music from the Round Top Brass Band, the Round Top Jam Session and Cool Freddie E and the Crew.
  • Downtown Independence will begin its day of Fourth of July fun with a trail ride at 2 p.m.  A parade will ride through at 5 p.m., with music from the Risky Liver Band afterwards.  The day will conclude with fireworks at 9 p.m.
  • Bellville will hold its Red White and Free Festival at the Austin County Fairgrounds starting at 5 p.m.  There will be food and games, live music from Mason Marek and Sundance Head, an appearance from Phenix Knives, kids’ activities, and a fireworks show produced by Michael Swansey.
  • Welch Park at Lake Somerville will have fireworks beginning at sunset, along with water slides for children.  Entry is $5 for adults and $2 for kids 3-9. 
  • Fury on the Fourth championship bull riding will take place at the Lee County Sheriff’s Posse Arena in Giddings.  Doors open at 6 p.m., and the event begins at 7 p.m.  In addition to the bull riding, there will be kids’ mutton bustin’, shark cage, bull poker and performances from rodeo clown Johnny “Backflip” Dudley.  Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for ages 7-14.
  • Burton American Legion Post #242, the Ladies Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion will hold a Fourth of July picnic at the Burton Community Center.  Barbecue meals will be served starting at 11 a.m., and there will be a cake walk, live and silent auctions, and bingo.  Meal tickets are $18 for adults, and meat will also be sold by the pound.
  • The Kenney Agricultural Society Hall’s BBQ Celebration will have beef, pork and mutton meals, a cake walk, live and silent auctions, a drawing, music by DJ Sandman and other entertainment.  Plates will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at $15 for adults, $5 for children 6 and under.  Meat will also be available by the pound.

KTEX-106 will be all around the area for the various Fourth of July events, with appearances on Monday in Giddings and Caldwell and on Tuesday in Chappell Hill, Round Top, Burton, Bellville, Independence and Giddings.
