CHAPPELL HILL CHAMBER ANNOUNCES OFFICIAL PARADE GUNNER

  

The Chappell Hill Chamber of Commerce has announced who will have the honor of kicking off festivities for tomorrow’s (Tuesday) Independence Day parade with the firing of the Kingfisher Cannon.

The BetsWest Foundation will serve as the official Chappell Hill parade gunner after submitting the winning bid for $1,000.  The foundation will be represented by 9-year-old Brooke Blackie and her father, Weston Blackie.

The Kingfisher Cannon is a 5-inch smooth bore 18-pounder that was loaned to the Chamber, courtesy of Roger and Paula Imm.

Tomorrow’s parade gets underway at 10 a.m., with a theme of “A Star Spangled Spectacular Independence Day Parade.”  The Grand Marshal for the parade will be Brenham VFW Post 7104 Commander Ben Seeker.

Chappell Hill Chamber of Commerce President Joel Romo says the Chamber appreciates everyone who placed a bid to be the parade gunner this year and helped to make this a successful fundraiser for the Chamber.  He also thanks the Imm’s for the use of their cannon and their contributions to Chappell Hill.

The artwork for the parade was designed by Canyon Andersen, the daughter of Chamber board member Lauren Cox and Chris Andersen, and is featured on the Marching Kazoo Band t-shirts. 

Kazoo Band check-in will take place in downtown at the Rock Store, where children will receive a kazoo and complimentary t-shirt.  Children are invited to join the band as they march through the parade playing “Yankee Doodle Dandy”.

Before and after the parade, visitors will be able to enjoy dining, shopping, face painting and live music from Rob Moorman & Company.  Parking is free and will be available at the Main Street parking lot by the Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department.
