AUSTIN COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE WARNING PUBLIC OF A PHONE SCAM
The Austin County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a phone scam that has been going on.
The Sheriff’s Office has received information that Austin County residents are getting calls regarding outstanding warrants and money owed.
If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from the Sheriff’s Office requesting money or telling you there is a warrant for your arrest, do not send money, because it is a scam.
These calls are fraudulent and not coming from the Sheriff’s Office.
The Austin County Sheriff’s Office will not contact you by phone and ask for money or threaten to arrest you.
The Sheriff’s Office also wants the public to know that they are aware of the situation so it is not necessary to report each incident to them.
The scam appears to be happening all over Texas, and is not exclusive to Austin County.
