SURVEY RESULTS FOR NORTH PARK DEVELOPMENT RELEASED

  

Results from a public survey to share input on the proposed North Park Development project in Brenham have been released.

Around 440 responses were logged in the survey, which asked residents about features and amenities they would like to see in the mixed-use development planned off of North Park Street, near Hohlt Park.  Initial plans for the long-term project are to provide office space for lease, a public green space with outdoor amenities, boutique hotel, dining and golf simulator stations.

Some notable statistics from the survey come from discussion on food options in Brenham, where 75.3 percent of respondents agreed that Brenham needs more standalone restaurants that are individually owned or have unique concepts.  Approximately 72.3 percent of survey takers want Brenham to have more healthy food options that taste good.

On whether a food establishment being locally owned matters, a majority of responses – 45.6 percent – said they prefer to support local businesses, but it is not a huge factor.  Meanwhile, 30.6 percent said they would pay slightly more to support local businesses, and 23.8 percent said they have no opinion on who owns the restaurant.

Discussing parking challenges, 56.9 percent of people who took the survey said they have difficulty finding available parking at or near their destination.  When asked about parking characteristics, 40.5 percent said parking facilities being well-designed for safety, walking and landscaping was most important to them, trailed by 35.6 percent who prioritize parking always being available at or near where they need to go.

When discussing the uses for public, turfed-area greenspace, shaded seated areas were listed as the most needed at 36.4 percent, with proximity to food and beverage in second place at 23.1 percent. 

For the indoor golf simulator, 46 percent of people who responded said they would go there to have a drink if that was available at a bar, but 40.3 percent also said they probably would not have use for such an establishment.

The largest group of survey takers was 35-45 years old, making up 40.7 percent of respondents.  That was followed by 26-34 years old, which consisted of 26.7 percent. 

Katie Burch, principal architect and owner of PlanNorth, the business name of North Park Development LLC, said she is grateful for the number of survey responses received, along with several detailed emails that provided additional input.  She said there were a lot of ideas given, and time will be taken to consider them before moving forward.  She added that there may be additional opportunities for feedback in the future.
