WASHINGTON CO. HOME DESTROYED IN FIRE

  

A Washington County home is a total loss after a fire that started late Sunday night and continued into early this (Monday) morning, requiring the aid of multiple fire departments.

The Berlin – Mill Creek – Zionsville Volunteer Fire Department responded around 10:15 p.m. Sunday to a fire in the 200 block of Red Tip Lane, next to the Artesian Park RV Campground on Highway 290 between Brenham and Burton.

According to Berlin Volunteer Fire Chief Mike McAnally, a residence was consumed by fire at the time units were dispatched.  The first arriving units reported heavy flames showing through the roof.

McAnally said the fire was under control at approximately 1 a.m. this morning.  The last units cleared the scene shortly before 5:30 a.m.

Assisting with mutual aid was the Burton Volunteer Fire Department.  The Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department provided two water tankers, while the Meyersville and Salem departments were called for additional manpower.  The Brenham Fire Department provided the air trailer for refilling air packs.  The Washington County Community Emergency Response Team assisted with firefighter rehab.  Also on scene were the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Washington County EMS. 

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, but the origin is believed to come from the garage area.
